Why One Laser Can’t Fix Everything: Finding the Right Skin Treatment for You
One of the most common questions I hear from patients is,
“What laser treatment do I need?”
After nearly 20 years in aesthetics, my answer is usually the same: What are we trying to improve?
The truth is, there’s no single laser or aesthetic treatment that addresses every skin concern. From sun damage and redness to fine lines, acne scars, and skin laxity, different concerns require different approaches. The key to achieving beautiful, natural-looking results is choosing the right treatment—or combination of treatments—for your skin.
IPL for Sun Damage, Pigmentation, and Redness
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of my favorite treatments for addressing certain types of sun damage, brown spots, redness, and visible blood vessels.
However, not all pigmentation is the same. Some conditions respond well to IPL, while others require a different approach. That’s why a professional skin evaluation is essential before choosing a treatment.
Moxi and ResurFX for Texture, Pores, and Fine Lines
When uneven texture, enlarged pores, or early signs of aging are the primary concerns, fractional laser treatments like Moxi and ResurFX may be better options.
These treatments create controlled treatment zones within the skin, encouraging the body's natural healing response and collagen production. Over time, they can help improve skin texture, fine lines, and overall skin appearance.
Microneedling and Morpheus8 for Collagen Remodeling
Microneedling is another excellent option for improving skin quality, particularly when addressing acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven texture. By stimulating the skin's natural collagen production, microneedling can help create a smoother, more refreshed appearance.
For patients experiencing skin laxity or needing more intensive collagen remodeling, Morpheus8 may be a better fit. This treatment combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to target deeper layers of the skin, helping improve firmness and texture.
Why Combining Skin Treatments Can Deliver Better Results
One thing I emphasize to patients is that three sessions of the same treatment aren't always the best approach.
Some skin concerns absolutely benefit from a series of treatments. However, others may respond better to a customized plan that combines different technologies.
For example, I might recommend IPL to address redness and sun damage, Moxi to improve tone and texture, and microneedling to stimulate collagen production. Each treatment serves a specific purpose, but together they can help create healthier, smoother, more even-looking skin.
It's not about doing more treatments. It's about choosing the treatments that make the most sense for your individual goals.
