Micro needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a popular, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used to rejuvenate the skin. It involves using a device with fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin's top layer. These tiny punctures are not designed to cause scarring; instead, they trigger the body's natural wound-healing cascade, which stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin.

These essential proteins are responsible for the skin's firmness, elasticity, and youthful appearance. The procedure is highly effective in addressing various skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture or tone, and it is safe for all skin types and colors. For enhanced results, it is often combined with topical serums or Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).

  • Does Micro Needling hurt?

A topical numbing cream is typically applied to the treatment area 30-45 minutes before the procedure to minimize discomfort. While the sensation can vary among patients, most report feeling only a mild vibration or a slight pricking, and the overall experience is manageable. Any discomfort is brief and should not be considered painful.

  • What is the downtime after a treatment?

Micro needling is a minimally invasive procedure with very little downtime. Immediately following the session, your skin will look red and flushed, similar to a moderate sunburn, and may feel warm or tight. This redness and any mild swelling usually subside within 24 to 48 hours, though it can last up to a few days. Most people can return to their normal activities within a day. Following post-care instructions, such as avoiding strenuous exercise, direct sun exposure, and harsh skincare products for the first few days, is crucial for optimal healing.

  • How many sessions are needed, and when will I see results?

The number of treatments required depends on the specific skin condition being addressed and your individual response. For most concerns, a series of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, is recommended to achieve optimal results. While you may notice a healthy glow within a week or two, the full benefits appear gradually over several weeks and months as your body continues to produce new collagen and elastin. Maintenance treatments are often recommended annually to prolong the rejuvenating effects.

  • Micro Needling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

At Williamson Cosmetic Center we also utilize platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with our micro-needling treatments. PRP is a skin rejuvenation procedure using your own blood’s high concentration of platelets and growth factors to stimulate tissue healing, new cell growth, and the body’s natural collagen production. The PRP is applied topically during micro-needling to better access the deeper layers of your skin. This combination treatment helps boost skin cell turnover and achieve the glow of fresher, younger looking skin.
