Microdermabrasion is a new technology available in the world of skin rejuvenation at Williamson Cosmetic Center. It’s a quick and painless treatment that accelerates the rate at which dead skin is exfoliated and it helps to jump start the proliferation of new skin cells. Sometimes referred to as a “power peel,” this non-surgical, non-chemical procedure can reduce or even eliminate the effects of aging and sun exposure with minimal discomfort and virtually no side effects. The treatment itself is very quick and patients can immediately return to their normal, daily activities.
Microdermabrasion is not only safe; it is also affordable because it is so simple. A gentle suction is delivered through a special hand piece that is use to direct a stream of very fine crystals over the surface of the skin. This gentle abrasive action of crystals removes rough outer layers of skin to reveal the softer, smoother layer beneath. Since the process is so gentle it works equally well on all pigmentations of skin.
Microdermabrasion can be used to treat hyperpigmentation, sun-damaged spots, dryness, fine lines and wrinkles, and even minor acne scars. After an in-depth evaluation by our medical skin care specialist, an individual treatment program is created. The treatments are performed in our office and may take 15 – 45 minutes depending on the severity of the condition and the area being treated. A typical program might include an initial package of 4 – 6 treatments spaced 7 – 10 days apart, followed by periodic touch-up treatments as needed.
