Blepharoplasty

As we age, gravity, heredity, and years of sun exposure work together to steal the youthful sparkle from our eyes. The delicate skin around the eyes is particularly vulnerable, leading to stretching, sagging, and the formation of unsightly fatty pockets. These changes can make us look older and more tired than we feel.

This transformative procedure is designed to tighten sagging eyelid skin, reduce puffiness, and diminish bags under the eyes. The result is a rejuvenated, youthful appearance.

Blepharoplasty can help you:
– Tighten loose, sagging eyelid skin
– Reduce puffiness and bags around the eyes
– Restore a rested and vibrant look

Common Questions

How is blepharoplasty performed?

We remove excess eyelid skin and fat with small incisions that are hidden in the fold lines of the upper eyelids. These hairline incisions hidden in the eyelid creases heal exceptionally well and are virtually invisible within a few months. For lower eyelid bags, the incision is placed inside the eyelid and bulging pockets of fat are removed. Blepharoplasty is performed under light anesthesia in our private outpatient surgery center. The procedure usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour, depending on the patient.

What about recovery?

Most patients experience no pain or discomfort following surgery. Patients are asked to use antibiotic drops for one week and apply cold compresses during the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. These are later followed by warm compresses to improve blood flow to the area and aid in healing. Some swelling and bruising will be seen, typically resolving over 7-10 days. This varies from person to person, but many patients feel comfortable returning to work after a long weekend. What procedures are commonly combined with eyelid surgery?

Many patients undergoing eyelid surgery elect to have laser resurfacing performed during the same treatment session. Commonly used around the eyes to reduce fine lines and crow’s feet, laser resurfacing may also be used to minimize forehead creases, lip lines, and other signs of sun damage to the skin. In cases where the eyebrows are also droopy, a brow lift may be performed.
