Hair Restoration Surgery

Hair restoration surgery can have a dramatic impact on one’s self-esteem and appearance. With today’s meticulous techniques, hair restoration surgery looks entirely natural. This is due to transplanting small units of follicles from a donor site to the area of hair loss. This requires time, experience, skill and an aesthetic eye on behalf of the surgeon. Patients suffering from hair loss have the opportunity to change this creating a more youthful and healthy appearance.

HAIR LOSS IN MEN

There are many causes of male pattern baldness. It affects millions of men. Although billions of dollars have been spent researching hair loss there remains no real effective way to slow down the process or reverse hair loss. The most common cause of male pattern baldness is androgenetic alopecia, which is genetic. It is usually passed down from either your father or mother. Surgical restoration can be an excellent option for men with this type of hair loss.

HAIR LOSS IN WOMEN

This is not an uncommon problem in women. However, it is much more difficult to accept due to the social factors surrounding a woman who has hair loss. This is why women are good candidates for restorative hair surgery. Women can have hair loss at any age. It is usually less specific to the crown and seen more as a thinning hair. The causes can be androgenetic alopecia or hereditary baldness. Also, women are more likely to suffer from hair loss due to diet than men. For example, low iron levels are the most common dietary causes. Other vitamins can be involved. Hair loss in women can be transient especially after pregnancy. Hair loss has been seen to show up even after menopause. To learn more about hair restoration surgery contact our offices today!

ABOUT THE SURGERY

Most micro-hair transplant procedures use local anesthesia and are performed on an outpatient basis. Other procedures such as flap surgery, require general anesthesia and are performed in a surgical setting. After approximately six weeks, the transplanted hair will fall out and be replaced about three months later when the new hair grows in. To achieve sufficient density, several sessions may be required. Transplantation is a progressive process requiring hundreds of micro-grafts, each of which will generally contain from one to three hairs mini-grafted from a donor site on the side or back of the head. They are randomly implanted in the bald (or thinning) area so that they will grow in a natural pattern and produce an undetectable result.
